Thank you for your interest in adopting an Oasis Animal Rescue pet.
Our online application form (below) may take 15-30 minutes to complete and the subsequent adoption process is designed to ensure that every animal adopted goes to a loving home where it will be well cared for.
Our application asks a number of detailed questions which are necessary for our screening process.
The process is the same for everyone and it is not our intention to frustrate you – rather, we hope you understand that our adoption screening process is a commitment to the pets-in-need that we serve and an opportunity to always remember the friends we have needlessly lost:
Once your application has been received and reviewed, a home visit is completed with the whole family (or those individuals who will jointly be sharing their space with the pet). If all goes well, the household is approved to adopt. A preferred pet may be deemed a suitable match or another more suitable pet may be suggested. Then, after a successful meeting with the pet, the adoption may proceed and the adoption contract signed. The adoption fee can be paid via electronic transfer, cheque or cash.
It is our intention to ensure that all pets of the appropriate age (six months and older) are neutered or spayed. If you wish to adopt a young pet or any other that has not been altered, having the procedure done becomes the responsibility of the adopter. Specially negotiated rescue rates are available through one of the Durham Region veterinary clinics working in partnership with Oasis. Alternatively adopters can choose to utilize the services of their existing veterinarian clinic.
It can be very stressful for the animals, our volunteers, our staff and, most importantly for you, if an adoption does not work out and a pet is returned to Oasis. This is the reason that we are so thorough in screening potential adoptive families.
All information will be kept confidential.
Thank you for understanding. The Oasis team and your potential new pet look forward to meeting you.
